Frequently asked questions about becoming a Dayton Advocate.
What is Dayton Homecoming?
Dayton Homecoming is a community-led initiative that aims to bring former Daytonians back to the area and inspire non-native Daytonians to call Dayton home through peer-to-peer conversations with Dayton Advocates.
What’s a Dayton Advocate?
Ad·vo·cate (ad-və-kət) noun
A Dayton Advocate is anyone willing to share their story and engage their network to inspire them to relocate to Dayton to be a part of Dayton’s renaissance. Have a brother, or friend, or friend-of-a-friend who you think would love Dayton and should move? We want them to move too! And we want to help you make it happen!
Ok, what does that look like?
Everyone’s approach will be a little different, but the first step is to register so you’re part of the Dayton Homecoming Advocates Network:
Are there resources to help me?
Got someone interested in moving but not sure what to do next? Dayton Homecoming acts as a guide connecting you or your future-Daytonian to existing resources to help with: employment options, housing options, incentive programs, moving service recommendations and discounts, shareable fast facts about Dayton, neighborhood advice, connections to others who may have relocated from a location of your focus (e.g. Columbus, NYC, Denver, NOLA etc.), zoom events with city leaders, and answer other questions about the area.
What do I get out of it?
Aside from getting new friends and community members, Dayton Homecoming has incentives available for Advocates and Relocators alike (bullet list of what that might be)
After my work is done, then what?
Remain engaged with your fellow Dayton Advocates at networking gatherings, an annual citywide homecoming celebration, and use your Advocate perks (culture pass or something) to meet up with fellow Advocates. If you’ve tapped out your network and would like to keep going, the Dayton Homecoming team may call upon you to join other Advocates in future zoom calls with those interested in moving to the area to speak to your experience.
But I’ve already done this/been doing this/am doing this?
Already a Dayton Advocate? If you know of someone who recently moved back to Dayton, or you, or someone you know recently relocated yourself please let us know by registering here. Tracking numbers helps to find financial support for this work, and registering helps us connect you with a network of your fellow Advocates. We’re here to help bring people together for a multiplying effect. More of you means more Daytonians.

Everyone’s approach will be a little different, but the first step is to register so you’re part of the Dayton Homecoming Advocates Network:
- Register here
- Complete a survey here (questions about the evangelist like how long in dayton, industry, people in network they have in mind (with Qs about them - type of housing interested in/industry/reason for moving/demo info), info on people that have already relocated in last X years - feeds into salesforce (will need to be transparent about use of data)
- Brief orientation text/zoom/call with Dayton Homecoming team and/or fellow advocate match (orientation will include connecting via social and overview of how others have approached advocating, and story capture/share-could just be hashtag/marketing comm guidance)
- If you already have someone in mind that you are inspiring to move, then we have resources to help you help them. If you want to inspire someone to move, we can match you with an advocate network that fits your survey profile.
- Start advocating. Could take a week, or a year. Either way, update us on your progress and know that we and the Dayton Homecoming Advocates Network are here to help.
